A Place to Run

Becca Lynn Mathis and I are turning A Place to Run into a hand-drawn word art piece. It will be made from the names, moments and feelings readers share about the book.

A Place to Run (Trials of the Blood, Book 1), by Becca Lynn Mathis. This is the book cover, not my drawing. The drawing starts when the words come in.

How it works

A word circled in red in a word art drawingSample
Sample from a different drawing, Tea Time with Suriel. This is how your word gets circled.
  1. 1You send a word, or a short phrase of 3 to 5 words.
  2. 2I draw it into the picture by hand. The words are the picture.
  3. 3When it is done, I email you and show you where your words are.

Taking words now.

About $75 chipped in so far I started it with about $75 in supplies and time.

Want to help it along?

If you'd like to chip in while I work on it, it helps cover paper, ink and printing.

100% optional. It doesn't change whether your words go in or where they go.

Close-ups

Watch it grow.

I haven't designed Becca's drawing yet. It starts when the words come in.

A close-up opens at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the words. Never the whole picture.

Becca Lynn Mathis is a contemporary urban fantasy author and the creator of the Trials of the Blood series, along with the Tangled Souls books. She calls herself a hopeless romantic dreamer with a friendly heart and a sassy mouth, and a self-described creature of chaos.

Born and raised in Texas, Becca has been writing stories and daydreaming about other worlds since she was a little girl reading books in the branches of the tree in her front yard. When she isn't writing, she reads romance novels, plays tabletop RPGs with her husband, and performs at renaissance festivals. She has rebuilt her life from the ashes so many times she has lost count. She holds a B.S. in psychology from Lynn University and lives in South Florida with her husband and their blended family.

A Place to Run is Book 1 of Trials of the Blood. It follows Grace Lynn Cartwright, a lonely copy-editor suddenly thrust into a world of werewolves and vampires. Between learning life in a pack, a protected bloodline the military wants, and a former friend who only wanted her blood, Grace can barely breathe. It's a found-family story for anyone who's ever wanted to be part of a pack.

Questions

When will it be done?
A project takes about 1 to 4 months. A big piece can take longer.

When can I get a print?
I usually start taking print orders in the last two months of a project. Prints are ready about 2 to 3 weeks after the drawing is finished, once it is scanned and ready to print. Signed prints take a bit more time: they come to me first, I sign them, and I ship them back out. That can take 2 to 4 weeks, usually faster. Outside the United States it can take longer.

How will I know where my word is?
I email you a photo with your word circled.

Can I buy the original?
When the piece is finished, this page will say.

Something else?
Send me a note.
